The
annual Dance and Benefit for CURE was originated by Pete DiCecco, whose
son
Phillip passed away from cancer in 2006 at the age of 24. Pete created PADDance
in
Phillip's memory to help other families facing childhood cancer.
At
the time of Phillip’s illness, not every child and family qualified for
palliative
care,
care designed for the end-stage patient who continues to suffer from the
pain
and discomfort of cancer. A specialized service, palliative care is supervised
by
doctors, nurses and a team of professionals who seek to make a child’s final weeks
or days as comfortable and pain-free as
possible - a blessing to both the child and his family.
Even
in 2012, however, palliative care is not available to every Rochester-area family that
needs it.
PADDance
raises funds to benefit CURE Childhood Cancer Association and a
program
of palliative care for children and families facing end-stage cancer.
PADDance
remains committed to growing an annual
fundraising Benefit, all proceeds
from which go directly to
CURE Childhood Cancer Association, in support of the Pediatric
Paliative Care Program.
